How laser hair removal works
The laser light is absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair, and turned into heat that damages the hair follicle. Only hairs in their growth phase respond, which is why several sessions are needed. The goal is a significant, long-lasting reduction of hair growth; white, grey, red or very blond hair responds poorly.
Why two wavelengths?
- Alexandrite 755 nm: strongly absorbed by melanin; often preferred for fair to light-olive skin and fine to medium dark hair.
- Nd:YAG 1064 nm: deeper penetration and less absorption by surface melanin; preferred for olive to dark skin and thick, deep hair (beard, underarms, bikini area).
The Clarity II received FDA 510(k) clearance (K183566, June 2019) for hair reduction, pseudofolliculitis barbae (1064 nm), and vascular and benign pigmented lesions.

Women: upper lip, chin, underarms, arms, hands, bikini line and full bikini, abdomen, back, buttocks, thighs, legs, feet. Men: beard contours, cheeks and neck, nape, shoulders, back, chest, abdomen, arms.
Before your session
- No hammam and no scrub before the session; no cream or oil on the day.
- Do not wax, tweeze or epilate in the weeks before: the laser needs the hair root.
- Leave a small unshaven area so the doctor can assess the hair.
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner; tell the doctor about any medication or pregnancy.
